Our Montessori School Teaching Philosophy

Located in San Francisco, CA, our transitional kindergarten program is founded on the philosophy of Italian physician and educator, Dr. Maria Montessori. Dr. Montessori was the first woman to receive a medical degree from the University of Rome. She devoted her life’s work to the education of children. Her Montessori preschool method was created after she worked with and observed children for over 40 years. Her method is known and practiced throughout the world and well respected.

The Montessori Belief

Dr. Montessori’s belief system is based around the respect for the individual. A pillar of the Montessori method is that the first six years of life are the most important periods for growth in child education.

Children are different from adults and differ from each other, too. Their comprehension operates within a different capacity and sensitivity than that of adults. Adults will work toward goals and profits, while a child will work simply for activity.

By understanding how a child develops, the Montessori method is able to free the child to learn because they have acquired experience with both physical and mental order in their inner individual need. Your child will become aware of freedom as well as its corresponding responsibility to themselves and others.

The Whole Self

Dr. Montessori found that it is important to develop a child intellectually, physically and socially as a whole. Each element is of equal value. Our child education program at Montessori House of Children in San Francisco, just north of Daly City, ensures to always encourage and guide your child to a happy, balanced and aware personality that enriches their life as they grow older.
